Vintage, Le
4475 Saint-Denis Mont-Royal métro

Tel. 849-4264 Monday to Friday, noon to 11 p.m. Saturday, 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Closed Sunday. $40 for two before wine, taxes and tip. Table d'hôte: $7.95—$10.95 (noon).
Tapas are all the rage, and Le Vintage serves them à la Portugal. A sip of sherry or a glass of white wine complements these finger foods, transforming them into a light meal shared between friends. The popular terrace is delightful in the spring, and certainly preferable to the lingering odour of sardines which sometimes plagues the interior. A daily selection of portos. Livejado, music on Saturday evening. Warm and welcoming service. You don't need to speak Portuguese to be understood. A real neighbourhood restaurant, with the occasional festive tippler, nostalgically lamenting to the melancholy strains of fado.

Sample menu: Cod croquettes, shrimp croquettes, grilled squid, grilled sardines, octopus salad, Portuguese sausage, chicken wings, quail à l'escabeche, lamb stew, rice with seafood, pork and clams sautéed in white wine, crème caramel.
