Here There Be Monsters; monster portions, that is. Gargantuan, Brobdingnagian, colossalall these adjectives apply to the platters you can expect here. But what platters! Not loaded with lard-soaked hash browns, cartilaginous breakfast links and greasy fried eggs, but replete with your choice of main ingredient and accompanied by fresh fruits out of season, mushrooms sautéed in vin doux, roasted potatoes and Tomates Provençale. But wait, there's more: with all the brunch choices you also get bacon, two slices of ham, sausages, a coffee, and a small orange juice. Unfortunately, they don't provide a miniature white flag.
Examples of mains are Petit déjeuner alla Milanaise: poached eggs on a grilled bagel, garnished with Swiss or cheddar; Petit déjeuner al salmone: smoked salmon rolled with Swiss cheese, goat cheese and capers; and Crêpes roulées au fromage ricotta parfumée à l'orange: two crêpes rolled with ricotta and cheddar cheese in maple syrup.
Be sure to bring a week's worth of hunger, as one of these plates is a challenge for even two people. La Petite Marche is narrow, dark, noisy and smoky, but it is filled with good cheer, and again, the price hovers around less than $12 with tax and tip for one hungry eater. Reviewed by Nick Robinson
