Walking into La Papaye Verte, surrounded by the bamboo décor, and inhaling the scent of jasmine tea intermingled with fragrances emanating from the kitchen, you'Il surely be thankful for this Asiatic respite. Lemongrass, basil, ginger and nuoc mam hint at the inscrutable presence of South East Asian wisdom. Exquisite desserts—the chef has worked in Lyon and knows his pastries and ice cream. Iced tea with lime in the summertime. Owner Lam Tran cooks. The personnel take great pains to make you feel welcome. Catering.

Sample menu: Shrimp fritters, escargot soup with turmeric and red basil, shrimp and lotus branch salad, chicken with herbs, beef roulé on pepper leaves, tomato and celery shrimp sauté, steamed fish in black-bean sauce, fried tofu with shallots, coconut milk and caramel flan, mango ice cream, nougat glacé au chocolat et à l'avocat.
