Mi Tierra
900 Duluth E. Mont-Royal métro

Tel. 844-0027. Sunday to Wednesday, 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday to Saturday, 6 p.m. to midnight. $100 for two before wine, taxes and tip.
Maria and Michel Saint-Martin are the proud owners of this former brochetterie near Lafontaine Park. One finds oneself in Mexican territory, here, happily seduced by Maria's authentic cuisine. Don't expect to be served the same dishes as at a Taco Bell. Several veggie options, such as the rice with pumpkin sauce and black beans. The wines are reasonably priced (only $5 more than at the liquor store). Michel serves; Maria makes occasional forays out of the confines of the little kitchen. As it's not a "bring your own wine" restaurant, the clientele differs somewhat from the rest of the strip. After an afternoon skate at Lafontaine Park, this convivial, family atmosphere is just what the doctor ordered.

Sample menu: Shrimp cocktail, fish ceviche, avocado stuffed with cheese and chipotle pepper mousse, green salsa tortillas stuffed with chicken and cheese, beef tacos with salad, molé Poblano, crême caramel, crêpes smothered in caramel.
