Main à la pâte, La
1187 Van Horne. Outremont métro

Tel. 271-1187. Monday to Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Closed Sunday. $50 for two before wine, taxes and service. Table d'hôte: $10.50 (noon); $8.95—$16.60 (evening).
Little Outremont hideaway. Difficult though it may be to believe, the chef turned his back on French cuisine for pasta. His fresh pasta is varied and interesting, and his sauces are a revolution. This little resto is Pulcinella's secret around Outremont; I think it's because of the flour. Marinated salmon with cumin spirits as an entrée. Real home-cooked meals at noon. Private room available.

Sample menu: Terrine de campagne, pain de campagne with garlic, tomatoes and olive oil, cornflour pasta with sautéed chicken and olives, buckwheat pasta with duck confit and broccoli, semolina pasta with scallops and tomato sauce, rye pasta with bleu d'Auvergne cheese and bacon, île flottante, homemade gateau à l’orange.
