Calypso
3401 Cartier Blvd., Chomedey, Laval BYOB

Open Tue.-Sun. from 5 p.m. to midnight. No license. Visa only. Reservations essential on weekends.. 686-8180.
Unassuming, no-frills (bring-your-own-wine) treasure, stashed in Chomedey. Chef-owners Lucie and Stephane Balabanian create astoundingly authentic-delicious Constantinople cuisine, making everything from scratch.

Cured bonito tuna, sun-dried mackerel, spiced sudjuk sausage, meltingly fried liver, crunchy-delicate cheese pies, perfect fish (grilled or fried), aromatic kofte, prime oregano-flavoured lamb chops, and weird-sounding hut very soothing chicken-breast pudding. Absolutely worth a special trip.
