$45 for two before wine, taxes and service.

(Since this review was written, apparently only the Parc branch survives.-Ed.)

The two Philinos restaurants are in areas as different from each other as chalk from cheese—one in the heart of Montreal's Greek sector, the other smack-dab in the middle of a waste-island shopping mall. Other than the fluid flow of Greek wine, the authentic (but less oily) Greek Island cuisine, and the owner, the two really haven't that much in common. Either one, though, is a good place to go to remember the tranquil life on the islands. Attentive service. The owners are very present, and always ready to discuss their beloved native land.

Standouts: Homemade brown bread and Jimmy's baklavas. The DDO outlet features a fresh fish counter. Both occasionally have live music.

Sample menu: Vine leaves stuffed with rice and herbs, aubergine spread, Greek salad, spanakopita, cheese puff pastry, fried squid, homemade sausage, vegetarian moussaka, grilled lamb cutlets, chicken souvlaki, grilled swordfish with vegetables of the day, nut cake with honey sauce, Greek honey doughnuts.
