An old Montreal standby has joined the ranks of the BYOBs, and are we ever glad they did! Au Tarot is located in the heart of the Plateau and offers its loyal following a delicious array of Moroccan delicacies. For starters, try the harissa soup, a rich vegetable broth with a hint of lemon, or the briks à l'oeuf, a deep-fried feullleté stuffed with tasty pieces of merguez sausages.

The cornerstone dish of Au Tarot is definitely the couscous, and the couscous à l’agneau was a meltingly tender, grilled lamb filet done in a thyme and mustard sauce that went perfectly with the slow-cooked vegetables and delicious broth which accompany the couscous. Couscous au poulet boucanter, a piece of obviously grain-fed, roasted chicken, was tender and scented after being marinated with an assortment of Moroccan spices.

Au Tarot’s interior has been completely redone, and transports the visitor to the sun: it is very pleasing to be surrounded by the mustard and blue walls and tiles. As well, the authentic music will have you egging your camel on! The restaurant isn't large, but is cleverly designed to afford privacy to the diners: waist-high dividers separate the restaurant in two. What is most striking is the obvious commitment to quality: when asked about it, the owner replied that they only offer products that are good for the health; high quality dishes, made with the freshest ingredients, are their first priority. With this kind of credo, it looks like Au Tarot will be making people happy for years to come.
