Arahova
301 Brunswick Rd., Pointe Claire

Open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 2 a.m., until 5 a.m. Fri.-Sat. Licensed. Accepts MasterCard, Visa and Amex. 695-1100.
Once a hole-in-the-wall souvlaki joint on funky St. Viateur St., Arahova has grown into a chain of spiffy "suburban taverna" restaurants in Laval, the West Island, the South Shore and downtown. At the West Island branch—and, no doubt, the others—the menu is ambitious, but the restaurant's success is based on souvlaki on pita bread; and that's still what to order.

Appetizers are pricey, but the astringent, citrus-tinged loukaniko sausage ($5.95) is a good one. For $3.05, the classic souvlaki is wonderful, if a little messy to eat.
