Alep
199 Jean Talon St. E.

Open Tue.- Sun. from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Licensed. Major credit cards. 270-6396.
A sparklingly authentic restaurant of the best that Middle-Eastern food can get with explosive tastes, colours and textures—olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, herbs, eggplant, tomatoes, grills, crisp-skinned fish and terrific, honey-glazed, melt-in-the-mouth desserts.

Best to attend in a group and graze. Mouhamara (pomegranate and walnuts), moussaka (eggplant puree with aromatics), sabanegh (spinach and onions), fattouche (salad with pita and mint) and labneh (homemade yogurt) are all excellent, and that's only the appetizers. Reservations recommended.
