This is my second model, at least since I made an Apollo 11 when I was 11. See my first here.

It's from the Heller 1/72 scale 707; as far as I know, the only 1/72 scale 707 that exists.
|
The liveries that came with the kit were for Air France or Lufthansa. I had to search high and low for 6 months until I tracked down a Liveries Unlimited (now long gone) Pan Am decal scheme in 1/72 scale. Mind-boggling, since Pan Am was the first airline to fly 707s.
By the way, anyone interested in making this model, please contact me, because I just bought an ALPS printer and plan on duplicating the Liveries Unlimited decal scheme for this model (after cleaning it up in Illustrator, meaning it will be better than the original! Since Pan Am just went out of business again I won't be breaking any rules =+) |
I decided to do the old Bare-metal foil deal again, but this time it was hell. I didn't know there were very good metallic paints out there. Oh well, maybe next time.
|
The Heller model's parts aren't very well matched, but I'm not an obsessive modeller, so as long as you don't look too closely, you won't notice all the gaps and mistakes.
|
But I'm very happy with it. As a Pan Am brat who flew this 707 many, many times, It makes me smile every time i look at it.

I went through photo hell to get this "night" shot. This photo is unretouched at all . . .
